Remember that you’re an infinitesimally irrelevant organism on a tiny rock flying through an infinite vacuum and at some point in the future not a single other organism who know that you existed.
It really is great motivation. In this vast, endless cosmos, across all of unending time....Nothing we could ever possibly do will ever matter to the universe.
So the only context in which our choices have meaning is the context we create. Family, friends, hobbies, work, etc. If something isn't proving meaning/joy/etc, we can either:
1. change our context (stop caring, focus on long term benefits, prioritize short term benefits, etc), or
2. we change what we're doing (get a new job, stop putting in as much effort, change careers, go back to school, etc).
A "bad choice" is only bad if it leaves you no room to do one of the above. Of course, then it's not really a choice, is it?
There are some regrets we have to live with. You have to remember you made the best decision for yourself with the information you had at the time.
Senator Cleary?
I get huge anxiety myself just about changing jobs. I'm in that mode now because I'm about to jump to another job. You have to just keep resetting yourself I'm using the techniques that so many others out there often talk about for anxiety. Examples would be recognizing the anxiety putting it in perspective and admitting to yourself what the realistic worst case scenario is which really isn't that bad. Not saying it is easy but it works.
I feel you sis/brother. I just turned down an offer that could be a career change for me but i was so scared and had something with the job that i can’t really tell but something pulled me and i turned it down. Am i gonna regret it? Probably. And now i am going back to my old job which i really don’t like because i already resigned from my current job which I regret. I think you never know which one is better for you until you make a decision. Even if you regret it later, don’t overthink.
