Two things jump out.
1) I think have a meeting with them and confront the mismatch. Explain that you believed they hired you because of your business plan and drive, which led you to believe that you would be allowed to implement it. If you are not on salary, their exposure is somewhat minimal loss of revenue per your desk space and supplies and lucensing/e &o insrance, etc. And, if course, liability for what you do in name of company.
The first is probably minor, but cannot go on forever. So ask them what their history is of far timeline to being profitable for comapany and tell them the time line that you expect your system to take. Give them a date that you will reach certain milestones, or accept their way.
The second is liability, the regs are complex and confusing--I am an ria, cannot even have testimonials! Maybe you need to give them some reassurance that your way is in line with compliance.
If trust is an issue, or if they are uncomfortable without productivity metrics, then maybe offer them some. They might feel better if they have a list of activities to expect from you, so that they actually feel like they are supervising/mentoring you. I assume that no matter how autonomous your system is, that there are things you do every day to make sure the system is operating. If that isn't much, then do short term networking or volunteer stuff until enough prospects flow in to keep you busy.
Good luck! I think finding new ways is great, but I also think you will get further having your guys as chearleaders than you will being a renegade and them feeling disrespected.
Sorry about all the typos, I typed this on phone, and am not proficient!

...optimised for lead gen. I’m building a great social media presence too, in fact when I put up my beta website to stress test the functionality I had 38 people click on it and start my lead gen quiz in just two weeks without any promotion at all. Admittedly not that many completed it but that was part of the stress test and I’ve pivoted that element of the funnel now.
In my gut I’m doing the right thing, I’m building an actual business that is scalable and autonomous (where possible), as opposed to being a transactional adviser.
My old fashioned management team don’t understand tech, don’t understand what I’m doing and why I’m doing it (even though they loved my business plan?) and keep hounding me for numbers / pushing me to cold call etc.
I’m told I’m a good listener and a keen learner so I don’t feel like this is an ego thing, I’m just curious to know when to listen to those currently in the position you aspire to, or when to trust your instincts and go rogue.

I get that. Unfortunately I started this job in November 2019 so have not been able to shadow so I’m just trying to figure out what I’m meant to be doing as I go
