6 year
It’s not about time -it’s about meeting your goals -everyone has a different learning curve -ask about goals and what is needs to get to the next level / time is not important
Agree - too fast sets you up for failure. Your career is like a marathon. I lasted 30+ years in 8 countries and ended as CEO. Was never in a hurry, was all about the work. Until you are part of a great campaign and results, keep your promotion powder dry.
It can be frustrating because averages are averages. There are some people that have had that position for a short time others that had it longer. It really depends on you and the opportunity at the account to promote you. I would have a conversation with my manager and possibly have one with someone more senior on the account (like an AD) and ask them not specifically about you but about AS’s in general and what qualities they feel are needed for the next level and then map to that. Ask to be re-evaluated in 6 months time. In the meantime pound that pavement and get some interviews to see if there is anything out there that may be a better fit as these conversations should have been had with you already.
1 year ae jump is relatively fast. It happens but only to those who spent half the time performing at ae level
It should not take more than a year and if it does you need to get clear goals outlined ASAP and reassessed in 3 months
I did it in 10 months mainly because it was horrible and I did everything humanly possible to get promoted so I wouldn’t have to be an AAE anymore. Average is a year to 18 months in that role
