No one is safe, ever.
Even if you were 100% billable. If your agency lost a big client, one you don’t even work on, you’re still at risk. They might potentially “save” someone on the lost account by moving to that person to your role and then firing you. Happens all the time.
That said, id say stay above 75% to keep your name off low bill-ability lists

Yup. I get sent lists of them for my group.
Generally not as criticism of the employee but directed at me as the manager. “Get your people billable” type memos.
Yeah. And those memos are becoming more and more frequent. I get them too but they don’t seem to give us a “magic number”, just that they’ll let us know if they “feel” my people/I’m hitting “target hours”—a target that is never shared with us. Hence my question! Super fun.

You should be at close to 100%.
The holding companies are usually horrific at managing staffing levels, so they tend to overcorrect when there’s a revenue dip
There is rarely a set figure. But every hour impacts on margin, so taken together gives the leadership an idea of where they have issues. A comparison though. Law firms at the lowest possible end would expect 70% of contracted hours but many would expect 95-100% of contracted hours. The same dynamic as agencies being many work far more hours than contracted, so 110% not uncommon, just in the same way agency people can be billed out more than 100%.

What are these percentages? Does 100% mean 40 hours a week?
