I’m a second year associate at a small, but reputable firm. My caseload is almost entirely made up of clients who were referred to one of the partners but the partners are too busy so I end up taking the case. The clients are told up front that an associate, rather than a partner will be taking his/her case. I have hit my wall. I cannot do public accounting any longer. I cannot deal with the constant focus on compliance, billable hour and the general unproductive behaviors/mindsets. I remember a day when we were here to help clients. Now I just feel like we are here to bill clients. I want to go help someone build something.
Now I just need to figure out how a director with a tax background can have transferable skills to something else...

Any one make a move from fund admin after big 4 assurance and then was able to make a pivot to a PE fund accounting team? I am considering moving to a fund admin now. Have 9+ years of big four experience. Worried that I can get stuck in fund admin. But I have interviewed at several big name pe shops and make a few rounds on interviews but then get the same feedback that they are worried about my lack of operational experience.

I’m 3+ years to audit partner and weighing options and exhausted by omnipresent inspection risk and how this impacts day to day (and presume it will continue to get worse).
