Every kid has his/her own degree of maturity and readiness. It’s not a once size fits all. But if you don’t trust him with the air fryer, it’s a no-go this year.
Christ, at 13 I was smoking cigarettes and longboarding from Jersey to NYC with friends and spending the night. Granted lost my dad at that age and I had a single mother, but was probably home alone often at that age.
I think if it was for the odd day, it would be fine, but all summer? No.
Some states have minimum age laws for leaving a child home alone. Even if your state allows a 13 year old at home alone, I’d base it on maturity levels. I grew up in rural Texas, had a babysitter who was 12 years old, and I was left alone often. I turned out mostly fine
How old were you to have a 12 yr old sitter?
wtf? 13 is fine for home alone, when i was 12 id just leave the house for hours. And that was in 2009.

Comments making this about yourselves are weird. This isn’t about YOU and the age YOU stayed home alone. Also we’re beyond Gen X.
When my parents went out, they claimed the sitter was for my sister, who was 4 years younger.
