How seriously do consulting firms take their non-compete agreements? I’ve been at my firm (LS boutique) for 3 months and want to leave. I have an appealing offer from a big pharma which is also a client of my firm. The non-compete agreement that I had signed said I should not accept an offer with a client, a potential client, or a competing consulting firm for 12 months after departure. But I don’t know how that makes sense since so many consultants exit to industry/competitors. Thoughts?

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.

What should I do in a scenario where I was hired (12+ years) with far less salary than(~20% less) than other members (4+ experience) in team and asked to take 80% of team's responsibilities.
