I know Liver King is out there but my roommate has been living by his “9 ancestral tenets” and it basically changed his life. Anyone else that follows something similar seen benefits? Seems like he’s rooted on well being and staying connected with the world around you. Even if you think he’s weird his YouTube video is well put together.

You have to file federal first, NJ (non-resident) second and NC (resident) last.
Don't worry about NC W-2 being blank. You will be taxed by NC for all the money you earned in any of the 50 states.
In turbotax (TT), complete filing the federal section first. TT automatically transfers over the calculations to NJ and NC states. TT will prepare NJ second for the amount of money you have earned in NJ. At last, when TT brings you to NC, you'll be asked to "remove" the wages that are duplicate. These wages are the ones who have earned outside of NC.
If you follow the above, you'll be all set.
When you guys put in your w2 in turbo tax, combine all of the "empty ones" into your federal. The state section has around 4 lines to put your different states. That's what I did so I ended up with 1 w2 that had 3 states
You didn't have any income earned in NC to report there.
Is there no credit for taxes paid to NJ?
D1 - TT will do that math automatically for you
👌🏻
Just want to make sure OP doesn't over pay
My W-2 is pretty blank for my third state as well...I should just use the same info from my federal right?
That's not true
You have to file one in the state you worked in as a non resident. Use the info of the W2 for that state when filling that states income tax return. I'm assuming that you live in a state with no state income tax, so you don't have to file one in your home state, only the federal one.
No, I worked in NJ the entire year and I traveled back to NC every weekend.
Well, there's box 16 and 17 with numbers on there. With everything else blank on my NC one. While NJ one is filled out.
Right, you'll file a nonresident return in NJ for all income
Ya so at least turbo tax says I can't e-file my tax return bc I have one W-2 being blank on box 1.
Then a resident return in NC that shows all income was earned
Then don't enter that one
What boxes are filled in on w2 #2?
Your NC will be your federal, state, local. Your NJ will be an additional state
Thank you for all the help! I will look more into it.
TurboTax gave me that error too and then I changed the order that I went through my states (I think basically what m1) said and the error went away.
