You can always come back to Big4 - it isn’t going anywhere
Why are you saying ambition has a mutually exclusive relationship with industry and public?
I wasn't implying that. I have the fear of unknown and am just trying to get some perspectives.
You can have a fine career in industry or as a partner - maybe even both. Partner is a great role, but the right industry job can be amazing as well. You need to decide if the specific industry job you have lined up is really what you want. If you're unsure, keep interviewing until the right one comes along - or stay where you are and go for partner. Don't leave for a short term bump, even a big one, if you don't see your new position as a long term destination. Yes. I have worked in industry as well.
May I ask when you left and came back? Would you say your time in industry helped or delayed your progression?
I left for industry and after a year as a manager in industry I came back to big 4 (different firm). It depends on the role, but the hours were just as bad and the work was boring. Everything felt dated and repetitive. Feel much better back in public, and the resources are significantly better.
