I am a second year associate in an Italian medium-sized law firm. I have always worked in privacy\new technologies mostly with international clients (it’s been 5 years now). I love it, but - after I passed the bar exam - I feel like I need new challenges. Also, my feeling is that my career needs a boost. I am considering applying to some LLM program in the US (maybe in California). Would you recommend it? Or it doesn’t worth the effort?
Just my opinion but Ilm programs are really expensive and debatable whether or not it is worth it. I believe the majority of the value comes from the opportunity to work in the us after graduation(if you go to a good school) and perhaps making friends and learning about the culture in the us.
This. Check whether the state you might want to stay in will let you sit for the bar after your program. NY and MA generally do allow LLMs to sit fir the bar. Many states do not. Look up National Council of Bar Examiners webpage which has a guide with details.
Most people believe LLMs are just moneymakers for law schools. Tax at NYU, Georgetown or FL are considered good ones (but only if you like tax).
The rest are very expensive and often don't lead to jobs.
Look into Fordham’s LLM program (NY)
