You don’t really have to worry about not having advisory experience—while the practice goes back and forth on this, we’ve generally found that the people that are best able to transition into FAAS have an audit background/experience with audit documentation. On your other question re: acting as staff, the answer is yes, for the most part everyone in FAAS is a doer up to and including heavy senior manager - we don’t typically have a lot of staff in the practice so seniors tend to be the lowest on the totem pole. That said, it’s a great chance to get your hands dirty on technical topics/solving client problems and overall the work is more interesting/rewarding than audit. More recently the practice has started pushing for 55 hours during busy season. Your actual billables/schedule will likely fluctuate with project work, which is generally not that predictable or regular. It’s not super common to be staffed on audits, but can happen when we’re in slower periods.
How do you think someone like me would do? I have been out of big 4 audit (left as a senior) for almost 5 years but honestly thinking about returning to PA in some fashion. I am interested in advisory but no idea where I would fit in if at all.
