I am a Senior Tax Associate and I work in the PWC RIC Tax AWM team. So I basically deal with clients that need 1120-RIC Tax Returns and 1065 CTF’s which some are quite complex. Also work on the Tax Provisions and Monthly estimates for certain clients. We will also have our busy season coming up after 10/31 due to Excise Tax Season. Don’t need a CPA or EA for my role. Why do some of these companies prefer it for the same title but working on partnerships or Corporate Tax? I just don’t get it.

sorry, what's the question?

likesmartfunny

Why pick you when you can pick someone with similar experience or better with a CPA/EA?

likesmart

Are you going industry or just to a smaller PA firm? If it’s a PA firm, it’s because you need to be able to practice before the IRS to sign a return - either JD, CPA or EA. Not matter what you think, it’s not just a title.

He’s a senior associate. Granted they may not be able to promote to manager, I say if a strong candidate came around and they just needed their cpa, as long as I expect their motivated to do thus, I would continue to lean on them

My question is that I’m trying to go to a private company as I’ve had enough of the PwC way or Big 4 in general, but those smaller to mid size firms want you to have a CPA or EA. It’s just a title.

No, no more public accounts firms. Job security is not looking good. At least not here. I have a PTIN, and I can sign returns. Listen, Not trying to ruffle feathers here on CPAs, just looking for a job. Just don’t understand the need for having a CPA in some of these private companies. Even my Managers at MFS never had them. Btw, Partners and Officers usually sign the returns.

Like "Tax Director 1" says, it could be because in addition to preparing the return, they want someone that can represent the client(or any of their clients) before the IRS. For that, you'd need to be an EA, Cpa, or Attorney. CPAs and attorneys would be limited to the state in which licensed. EA would not.

5+ years of full-time job as developer and still waiting to reverse a LinkedList at work.

Since there is a heavy impetus on solving Tree, LinkedList, and Graph problems for tech interviews, it can naturally make freshers believe that these concepts will be used in day-to-day life at work. In reality, most of these DSA concepts are already implemented in some libraries our code uses and we rarely have to code such Algorithms by hand.

For those managers and senior managers who are directly working with new staff and interns - how are you maintaining the quality? I am at a breaking point now as I have no seniors on 3 of my clients. How am I supposed to concentrate on complex allocations if I have to do all the updates on basic M-1s. All the experienced S2 and S3s I trained got pulled into other engagements as acting managers.
