If $108k is your salary, your wife will need to work as well in order to have a comfortable life, IMO.
Ditto, I moved to Houston 12 yrs ago for 80k and my wife found a 20k part time job and it was comfortable, that is 130k adjusted to inflation.
FWIW, I'm in Houston with 3 YOE and have a base salary of $105k.
I do not have knowledge of what would be appropriate for your role, but do with my stats as you wish.
27 making $110K. I think it’s low considering your YOE
not in manufacturing but that seems pretty low for your experience.
I would say check Glassdoor avg salary in HTX area for your role and industry. I’ve used those averages to leverage salary before
I moved to Houston a year and a half ago and was offered $140k with a $25,000 signing bonus intended to cover relocation to Houston as well. 18 YOE
10 yoe, 130k in engineering. You could negotiate another 10-20k, but understandably the visa filing etc have their own costs. At 10yoe I would expect 130-150k in this market.
108k isn’t much when moving expenses come into play plus mortgages and rent will eat that check up quick .
The standard would depend on the role and what specific experience you have… some people make more than that with 0 YOE, some people work 50 years and never make as much
That’s a comfortable salary in Houston, especially if no kids. Solidly middle upper class.
Yes it is. Welcome to Houston!
Remember he isn't an American though, will effect perception and offers will be less frequent so expect 10% ish less.
I would still say I expect every bit of 120k-130k for 10 yoe. Assuming your going into something oil and gas related.
It’s actually not legal to offer less because of citizenship, it’s the premise of the whole LCA process that’s part of the H1/green card process
Welcome to Houston!
You can make it work, but it depends on your cost of living expectations, will your wife work? What area of Houston is your company at (if you can live close by it will make things a lot easier and cheaper) feel free to DM me for areas to move into and welcome!
Don't forget that you'll spend much more for healthcare in the US, too. If you have any chronic health issues or take medication I'd seriously look into how much that's likely to set you back each month.
