i am expecting a large sum cc purchase soon. if the purchase amount ($1500) is greater than my credit limit ($1000), in order to prevent decline, can i make upfront payment on my cc ($800), so the sum of the amount ($1800) can cover my purchase?

Call the credit card to get that limit raised.

like

Answer is already no since I just opened the card

If you’re credit is such that you’re only getting a 1k limit on a new card, you might not be playing the points game correctly

OW1 I have a store card from a furniture store that gives me 10% store credit on every purchase amount. They’d only give me $2k credit line despite $800k HHI, and 750+ scores.

Yes you can

Yes for chase cards. I did this with an engagement ring purchase. Suggest prepaying as much as possible 2-3 business days in advance.

It depends on the issuing bank. I was running into this with a Citi card, and I could only pay ~7% above the outstanding balance.

Maybe you’d have different luck if you had a bank account and tried to sort it out in a branch with a teller? Not too sure about that, though.

Is it from a place that has gift cards? Go to raise or card cash and buy 510 worth of gift cards, pay it off. Then run the remaining $990 on your credit card. You will get points for the gift card purchase.

Love how BS credit score is. Got my score up to 800 last month only to go on vacation so my credit utilization went up to 8% due to the increased spending and my score dropped 35 points because I didn’t immediately pay the balance after charging the purchases. I always pay my balance in full each month and have never missed a payment, how is 8% credit utilization determined to be that big of a risk that my score got immediately wrecked, I don’t understand
