I am in a bit of a conundrum. I know that I have to be up for work in less than 9 hours, I still have to publish my modules for this week, get grades in for midterms, and we had a emergency scare with my husband today. My brain is wiped and I can hardly focus. I am still going to try to at least put in a few more grades, and then go to bed. If nothing else, my 6th graders can type, and 7th and 8th graders have work to complete from last week. I think I will call it a night soon.

Give yourself a break! You probably care more than needed. Your family is more important than paperwork 😊

Thank you! When my routine gets switched around, I struggle. Plus the worrying about my husband, and I'm a mess.

That's a lot going on OP. Nothing wrong with knowing your limits and deciding it's time to rest.

I think that is my problem, it's knowing when to quit. I think, "Just one more...... ". Before long it's been hours of working on a project.

Sorry to hear about the emergency, I hope everything has resolved positively. Get yourself a good night's sleep, or at least the best night's sleep you can manage. And regroup in the morning.

We are still in a holding pattern. At least all the tests showed no heart attack. His cardiologist thinks it may be a blood pressure thing going in and adjusted his meds. We'll see!

I’m in a similar situation. I’m sick as a dog, I need to be up in 8.5 hours, I have a ton of grades to enter, I have quizzes to grade, I have notes to publish that I haven’t even made yet, and I’m completely wiped out. Fortunately, a state test is stealing all my juniors for the first four periods, which amounts to about half to two thirds of my class populations. I think everything will fall back a day and they can correct quizzes and homework.

We have to make modifications, excuse work at times, and adjust to student emergencies. Teachers are not immune life, and it’s okay to acknowledge that with students and yourself. Give yourself some grace.

So? They can reschedule! 🤨

When my son was hospitalized last year, Ed Puzzle to the rescue. I seriously assigned like 8 of them on the topics we were about to cover. I never even watched them. Didn’t grade there answers. Sometimes you just have to get through. My son ended up being type 1 diabetic. I teach math and I don’t care if they read a book all period. If he needs me, so what if they get an off day.

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. I ended up staying up to finish grading. So I am fixing to go to bed, have some asynchronous work to do on a CS workshop/PD, but can't focus. Y'all have a great evening.

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

Should I rejoin Equinox? Background: I cancelled my equinox membership because I wanted to try out different gyms. After about a month and a half, I’ve determined I really miss Equinox. It’s kind of expensive ($250 per month, but only an extra $130 over an average local gym). I like saving money but my health has definitely taken a dive because working out is not as enjoyable. Am I crazy?

A long post: seeking some perspective. My husband of 2 years that I’ve been in a relationship with for more than 8 years just woke up one day and told me that he’s unhappy in our relationship. I’m devastated because he’s never expressed anything like this in the 8 years. He’s been super supportive and loving, even when we were in a long distance relationship. He supported my career and dreams and this just doesn’t make sense. We have gotten a counselor but things aren’t getting better. Comment>

Any tips for hard launching partners on social media? For context, I’ve (Indian American female) been dating my white American boyfriend for 3 years and we just got engaged after two years of convincing my parents. They are very happy and excited now, but I’m scared shitless about being ostracized / judged by my extended family and Indian community in the US once I “let the cat out of the bag” on the engagement news. I want to be proud and confident about this but could use some moral support.

I am generally uncomfortable when I’m around my mother-in-law’s husband.

While he is overall a decent guy, his anger issues, yelling at his wife for the slightest issue, and insulting nature makes me uncomfortable and triggers my own anger due to his blatant disrespect for just about everyone around him.

My mother-in-law says he’s worked on things, but it’s been 10 years of this and I’m not sure I want such behavior around my wife and our kids since we’re trying to conceive soon (cont).
