Anyone an EA at Citadel? Do you like it?

Similar situation at BCG - specifically if you’re trying to go from EA to Senior EA. We have a ‘panel’ of four business services ‘leaders’ who review candidates who have been put up for Senior EA and these four people - who, for the most part, do not work directly with the candidates, and two of the people of this panel have never worked in an
administrative capacity. There have been presentations on what is required to become a senior EA and the requirements are convoluted at best. No joke, one of the requirements is ‘having that ‘it’ factor’ which is hilarious. Like what is this, am I on RuPaul’s Drag Race? Are you judging my charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent?
You’re a national treasure!
Yes, you need to find another role in the firm that allows for upward mobility, or you need to seek an opportunity outside the firm if you truly want to go places. You can use your EA experience as a steppingstone to a different career, but there really is no place to go other than senior EA in the administrative assistant ranks at EY.
At PwC, there is no upward mobility as an EA. In order to be promoted you need to apply for a promotion outside of admin services. There are opportunities to become a manager but you have to apply for it, it isn’t given to someone based on tenure or performance. I had to leave behind my EA career bc the raises were small and I wasn’t being challenged. It’s been hard to climb the ranks even outside of being an EA as people often think that EAs don’t have transferable skills. I argue differently of course as we touch many different lines of services and tasks. We deal directly with partners and managing directors and aren’t intimated by them.
I left EY just for that same reason, about 2 years ago. I was promised Senior EA when the promotion period happened, and guess what, it didn't. I went to HR, OMP and anyone that I could above my supervisor. We were working a "plan" to get me to that next level, and I could see the writing on the wall again that it wouldn't happen. So I left EY to go to GT and got the responsibilities and pay that I deserve now. Take a look at what is in your area and there is no harm in applying and talking to those that have made the move.
Good for you! What is your role at GT?
What’s upward mobility for EAs? 🤣 So much talent underutilized.
Thank you for saying this!
I started as a senior administrative assistant and promoted to other levels to an executive assistant. there was a clear path but since the retitlement there is none. If I had to tell my younger self I would only stay within a big 4 no more than five years and then move on. Get the experience and Move On … you’ll find better opportunities outside of the big 4. Like baseball, you’ll never advance to the next base by standing on first base.
I definitely think that Supervisors play favorites when it comes to promotions

All 4 big fours are in the same boat.
GT paid more than EY for Executive Assistant role?! I’m with GT and have begun looking for new firm since salaries are low here and ‘raises’ aren’t even ‘cost-of-living’ increase.
Curious, have you discussed with e supervisor?
But you have unlimited time off and a long list of other super-extra cute perks so how could you possibly complain about working 80+hrs/weeks to desperately prove you 'go above & beyond' to do the exact same tasks or more as "client-serving" members of your client's team (making, literally, 10x+ more than you do)?? Took me nearly 4 years to fully realize that perks are pretty much "shut-up money" -that works really really well 'cause I'm still here; so I advise taking full advantage of them (i mean, it does say UNLIMITED time off ;) ) unless/until ya get yourself a superficial, meaningless title that makes them see you as kinda-sort maybe worth a little more.
(though... we EAs are often the first to learn that 'those titles' come with some similar complaints so.....)
