Nah. Unless they guarantee that promotion. They would come up with all sort of excuses to delay you otherwise.

like

Oldest trick in the book. Don’t fall for it

like

Read couple more of your questions within the tread. I am top of the range for the experienced associate and hope to make a decent dump when getting promoted. However, with the new utilization requirements and having a rotation forced on me, I might have to really market myself to guarantee the promotion.
TLDR nothings guaranteed and nothing given. It’s better for their budgets to keep you at lower position/ fee per hr

If you are getting the $ you are looking for at a lesser responsibility, take it

likesmart

there is a meaningful salary band difference b/n Associate and Senior. If this is a pay raise vs current, I would take it. If not walk away. The recruiter gave you a sailor promise

like

Not happening. Don’t fall for recruiter.

like

No such thing as a guaranteed promotion so you need to decide if you are okay with an associate position.

like

Negotiate and say u will not take it for lower.

like

If the pay is sufficient and you like the job, take it. It’s better to overachieve one level lower than “meet expectations” on level above. If you perform as a senior while while at the associate level, you will be a superstar.

like

And superstars get promoted

likesmart

Stand your ground. You would really like to work here, but with your experience you just couldn’t take anything less than Senior.

like

First thing, money is more important than title to me so I would take a different approach then most people above. As such, stand your ground on the salary point and see what they say.
Second, get in writing that you will be promoted the next cycle, again in writing not a verbal promise. They have done it in writing in past so should not be new.
Also, apply with other firms to see what they say? I love KPMG but I would totally shop around if I was changing employer and not getting what I was expecting.

like

I did this and spent the whole time working as a senior associate, but getting paid as an associate and watching seniors come in at a higher pay. When I was promoted I was significantly lower than my peers. Currently looking for another job. Love the firm but can't take a $30k-$50k deficit for the same job.

like

This actually happened to me five years ago. Started as an associate in January. Was promoted to an SA in October of the same year. Does it happen? Yes. Is it common? No.

like

Either you are very lucky or a very Very hard worker.

like

If it’s not given in writing, it doesn’t mean anything.

like

I did this and the recruiter did not give me the correct info based on the time I joined. Told me I was eligible for year end increases/bonus and would get a faster promote by coming in lower.

I am on track for promotion this fiscal year BUT got no raise or bonus at year end and have to wait an entire year to see any pay increase after already being at the firm for 6 months.

Got played like a fool and it’s not sustainable for me.

like

They won't guarantee.

How many yoe do you have and what type of work?

With 5 plus they should give you SA

like

Will they be open to give higher compensation than what is standard for an associate if I go for it since I have 5+ yoe ?

Yes and no. You can come in at the higher end of the pay band so you will make more than other associates but there's a cap on that they won't exceed that's significantly lower than what they'd pay you as an incoming senior.

Are you going into a better team? If so yes go for it. Otherwise never take a demotion.

I did this and I’m spending a second full year here to see if it happens. Obviously I’ll be putting in great work and networking like hell along the way, basically doing the things I can control. Will look to bounce if it doesn’t happen and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Had this happen to a lot of colleagues as well as myself. Don't fall for it.

Does anyone have ideas on how to navigate a smaller team environment when everyone’s roles seem to be stretched (hiring for additional people has been taking a while, not sure why). The stress causes some tension and that’s probably not great for the overall morale of the company long-term. I try to ignore and just stay focused on what I need to do yet sometimes proves challenging. I worry it might affect my professional/career growth. Thoughts on this would be helpful, thanks!

Here’s a picture of our family dog for some likes ❤️

Can someone explain the difference between FB’s Partner Solutions Manager and the Strategic Partner Manager? From an initial recruiter call, it seems the SPM provides the consultative product recs while the PSM onboards the client onto that product and tracks performance to provide actionable recs as needed. Anyone know career growth and salary for these two? I don’t want a sales heavy/only lateral growth role like their client solutions manager roles so these seem like good compromises?
