I applied to a position a little while ago via email, and after hearing nothing back (not even a confirmation), I emailed again just to confirm that the application was received. Never heard back and was concerned that it wasn’t received, so I called and left a message. Still nothing. I feel like that’s kind of unprofessional/rude, but I’m not sure if it’s the standard. Usually I get a confirmation email that my application was received, but I never did. Is that normal?

Completely normal, unfortunately. Never put in too much hope in any application unless you gain traction. Apply, follow up maybe once, and move on. To be frank, I rarely follow up either, unless it's later stages. If they want you, it'll show.

like

This is normal. Sometimes you get an automated confirmation receipt but besides that, you generally hear nothing. Larger companies have a lot of templates and automation, but most other places a human would have to respond and it's just not a good use of their time.

It’s fairly common, unfortunately. For a few of the places where I applied I never got anything until a rejection email came almost a year later.

Currently in risk consulting but seconding at an international bank for internal audit on trade related scopes. Recently got offered to join them at a higher level position. Need advice on career path of IA at bank if it's worth, because they pay would be gradually higher than consulting in the later years when reaching VP level and coming in from different industry, the new scopes are interesting. But what would I be missing out on if I stayed in consulting?

M&A/PE associate (trying to juggle multiple deals) feeling like I don’t have time to dive deeper into issues and it being highlighted in some of my work product as I am having to turn things right away and just pushing things out - so issues I may have caught if I had a better/deeper/higher level understanding are more apparent when partners review. Truly feeling like I’m just messing up all around but trying to give myself grace. How do you know if it’s just you or a part of the process?
