I currently work for a non big 4 accounting firm and have been applying to jobs outside of public. It’s been over a month and I can’t even get a call back. Would it be worth considering switching to big 4 for a year then trying again? Or should I stay patient and keep doing what I’m doing. I should also probably mention I am a female and plan on trying to start a family in the next year.

It might be a good idea to try Big 4 solely to get the maternity benefits

Have you tried working with a recruiter? They have relationships with hr, hiring managers at the firms, way higher response rate, I got 4 interviews and 1 offer through them. But I am at Big 4

like

Haha, did we speak to the same recruiter? Lol, it’s like these guys all have the same script just like in Wolf of Wall Street.

Try Big 4.

How small is your firm?

I'd keep applying. That's big enough that you can call it a large public firm

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.
