I don't have US citizenship, but I'm planning to get a LLM in TAX in the US. After finishing it, how hard is to get a job in the US in big 4 or in law firm?

Getting an offer is not hard but most of the firms don’t sponsor visa anymore so unless you have a green card or on your spouse’s visa it might be difficult.

like

B4 - not hard.

Law firms - harder, because you're limited in jurisdictions that you can practice with only an LLM (assuming you're not already eligible to sit for the bar of other states, that leaves NY and maybe a couple others that you can sit for the bar) and it's generally tougher to get into law firms from an LLM. Even NYU only sends 40% of its tax LLM grads to law firms.

like

Big 4 employ the overwhelming majority of us tax lawyers so it isn’t tough to get a job. For law firms, on the other hand, it’s very competitive even if you go to the top 3 programs. Personally, I wouldn’t want to work for a law firm anyway because I’ve heard the hours are much worse and it’s already bad enough in Big 4.

like

Can confirm. B4 requires fewer hours and those hours are easier.

Easy! I got my llm in tax and got offers while still a student. We can also refer you!

like

Nope. He is american

Big 4 no longer sponsers. It’s not worth it.

Hey all,
Im looking to pivot my career from industrial design to product design or product management.
At the moment i manage a team of 5 industrial designers for b2b sustainable fashion and retail interiors. The methodologies and processes are quite similar between physical and digital design so i feel i should not start from a junior position, however my portfolio contains only physical. Did anybody else make a similar career switch? Any advice for switching to product is welcome. Thanks!

Hey, everyone. I’m originally from Michigan and have decided it’s time to move back to the good old mitten. Does anyone know anyone hiring a Jr. copywriter?

Align to non-M&A offering but do a lot of work in the space (DD, integrations). B4 recruiter reached out and wants me to provide resume@for review with hiring partner. Does it work if I provide a bio with summary of M&A projects (client names removed) instead of a traditional resume? Also plan to list education and previous roles.

Interested in how much others spend on food per month and what that breakdown looks like between at home or ordering out.

My husband and I have no kids and order/go out very rarely, maybe once a month, and our grocery bill for just the 2 of us has risen to around $750-$800 per month this year.

It's starting to feel very unreasonable to spend so much despite not wasting much. I do buy mostly produce but not always organic, and very little meat.

I let the shame spiral get the better of me this week. Realized that I wasn’t going to be able to meet a deadline because I’d mismanaged my time and the project was more complex than I though. Rather than admit the mistake and suggest a new deadline, I just kept saying I’d send it tomorrow/later/so on. And then I stayed up basically three days straight working, which has only made me slower and more inefficient. So I’m still not done and now I’m in the pits of anxiety and exhaustion hell. FML.

$325k TC at MBB in a non-generalist (still partner track) path. Love the intellectual variety, smart colleagues, flexibility (WFH has let me take occasional 2-3h windows during the day for personal activities) - can’t take the stress anymore. Are WFH industry roles at the $300-500k TC level really that much less stressful?

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.

Went from a big firm to work for a smaller firm. The people in the smaller firm are protective of their work and are good by their work too. I no longer feel chaos or stress. I am treated with respect and my schedule is more normal. I am even working more billable hours than before, but it feels like a seamless experience. I don’t work then past 5pm or anything out of the ordinary for this time of the year. I am so grateful!
