How did everyone here end up in executive search? Are you that rare unicorn who wanted to be a search consultant/researcher when they grew up?

I, like most people, fell into it and didn't realise it existed until I was working in it. Came upon through a personal connection I made while I was studying, started as data entry part time and voila, ended up coming back as a researcher.

What's your story?

As my title indicates, I'm both a product and a privacy counsel at my tech co. The product is consumer-facing and deals w/ privacy issues, so lots of overlap. I'm relatively junior, and currently am in the position of being able to commit to one path or the other. Anyone been here before and have thoughts on career progression for the two tracks?

I am currently working in advertising with experience on fintech & CPG. I would like to work in tech marketing, specifically Google’s APMM program.
I’ve been studying some PM/PMM books/podcasts/videos, attending Google events, and want to keep learning more to try to prepare myself as much as I can.
What resources helped you get into product marketing/Google?
Has anyone here moved from advertising to tech?
Would love to hear from a marketer about their experience getting into Google.

I was just talking to a younger friend who goes to Cal and It seems like the kids these days hate FAANG or at least Amazon and Facebook are not desired at all. I personally don’t see too many issues working at either Amazon or Facebook because I work at Deloitte where I’m sure we have many questionable clients and worked in financial services before. Curious on whether people are thinking about the ethics of their exit company when deciding to move?

Let's say I can't get a product or marketing job in tech, but I could get in via sales or customer success. Does working in those roles pigeonhole you, or is it easy to switch later? If you take a job as a customer success mgr for ads, or as a partnership mgr for learning solutions for industry X, are you going to get stuck in those products (ads, learning solutions), roles (CS, sales/partnerships), or target industry (X)?

Best books about product management for a good exit to industry? I already have an MBA and PMP but looking for a refreshed perspective since it’s been years since my formal education.

Sales and Trading vs PE? What is comp, WLB and career trajectory like. Doing my MBA now and likely going into consulting, but not sure. Might plan to exit to PE but if S&T offers decent hours and similar pay, may just skip the whole consulting to PE business.

Is there an uberpool version of chartered private jets? With this summer openings and travel restrictions lifted, domestic flying is going to be a massive hassle and aiports overcrowded. Both cost around the same - Lexus is more reliable and likely holds its value better but the Yukon is bigger and likely even safer.

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.
