I feel like the harder you work in the US the more they want to take from you. Because why is my student loan payment $478 when my car insurance is $242 and rises every year. My rent is $2200 which is standard for my living area and I wish I could save for a house or something but food costs a lot in the city. I have a chronic illness that costs $600 for medication and doctor visits (with insurance)… sometimes I feel like misery is the American Dream now… work, debt, die… 😟

You are not lying. I am making the most money I have ever made in my life and it's been hard for me to save. I'm a frugal person so I don't do a bunch of miscellaneous spending. This is insane.

Same!!! I worked soooooo many years to make enough money to afford care and not miss bills and now I beeything is so much more expensive… I just want to be able to buy a home and have a place to call my own and I don’t even feel I’ll ever have that with the way things are 😩

like

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I know it doesn't help but just know so many of us are in the same or similar situations. Just keep trying to stay afloat.

I have to get out of here. Every time I travel, I find the cost of living to be significantly lower than it is here. I went to Ghana ( a beautiful place with low violent crime) and was able to eat abundantly for like $12/day including all 3 meals. America makes things hard for us when it doesn't have to be.

Yet, you get to travel 🤔

Felt this! My parents immigrated to the US and brought me along when I was just 8. I feel like I have to achieve the American dream because they gave up so much to bring me here.

like

I feel this. :( I'm sorry about that and have a similar experience. I personally live at home with parents and feel like I can't move because my loans take up the amount that rent would have cost me and feel stuck.

I’ve never related so much to a post… autoimmune disorder here and people don’t realize how much financial pressure chronic illness puts on you… on top of student loan debt… rent… inflation… etc. I made 6 figures this year and never felt so poor in my entire life. Living paycheck to paycheck and seeing no end in sight.

Currently 25 y/o making 70k/year in Boston. I grew up pretty poor and I have minimal financial education. A lot of my salary now goes towards helping my parents get out of debt. My parents are no longer able to live on their own, so considering selling my grandmas house where they live (maybe 550k), paying off their mortgage (100k) and buying a duplex (between them they make about 55k/year). Is buying a two family home a good investment ? How much can I afford to spend on a new house?
