I finally hit my first $1M saved but don’t really have anyone I’m comfortable sharing with or who care (my parents responded “oh okay” when I told them), so I’m posting here

👏

Congrats! I can’t even tell my parents because neither of them even have $1M.

like

Congrats dude. Not what it used to be, but still a major milestone.

I know, but still good to reach it before my 30s - hopeful for a continued upwards trajectory

No one will ever be as excited for your achievements as you are. I don't mean that as a slight, simply an acknowledgement of reality.

This is a phenomenal achievement, and you should be incredibly proud of both the hard work you put in and the outcome. But ultimately, the only opinion that matters is your own.

like

Congratulations! You should be excited! Not all are able to do that!. I don't have it by no means. Never will. Teach me! But, definitely happy for others! Keep going!

First $1M is the hardest, so well done. Now set your sights a little higher and double that.

Congratulations. A big achievement.

Congratulations 🎉!! Its a big deal no matter how small it is to someone else!

Congrats OP!

Congrats, keep grinding! I can't discuss with my parents as I started making more than them right out of college... in their eyes I'm filthy rich, but in reality, we'll retire comfortably and about 7 years early.

Be on the lookout for friends that have similar aspirations, especially those not threatened by others' success. I have a few I trust that would help my family if I was not around because they know how to navigate similar investments. They are also great sounding boards for various wild ideas. I will say I focus less on sharing net worth as that's not a 'collaborative" discussion... instead focus on investment strategies, etc and often the numbers come out as a result which feels more natural.

like

Congratulations!! It’s a great milestone and should be proud of the work you have done.

Well done and congratulations 🎈🎊🎉

But this is old news!

Now you need to plan for the next $1m.

Great job!! 🥳 Sorry your parents weren’t more excited for you. Enjoy the accomplishment!!

That’s not going to change. I’m retiring at 55 and my parter is already retired. When I tell people I‘m quitting with no other job lined up, there’s confusion, concern, maybe disbelief but no joy or support. So I’ve started telling people I’m just taking the summer off. They are more comfortable with that, I guess.

like

Why don’t you use the word “retired” rather than “quitting”?

That is an amazing achievement before 30!! Congratulations. Your parents should much happier for you. That I a solid base that will keep growing.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!
