Substituting is the worst. You are totally right

It is not an easy job, especially with the shortages.
Allow him to go in and experience it for himself. You never know his outcome!! It may be different for his views and ultimately his opinion. Then, at that time, you can swap stories or situations together!!!
Pro
Maybe he could also shadow for a day to experience it? The swapping stories though, yes!
I don’t think you’re alone with how you are feeling. While substituting, there were many teachers who
had the same energy about substituting as you. I absolutely loved being a substitute teacher. I was a substitute for 7 years before I got my own classroom and I loved it. I think everyone who is considering teaching as a profession should start with substituting first. You really learn way more by substituting than having the same class all year. Overall though, teaching is hard and I am not always as encouraging as I maybe should be when people tell me they want to become a teacher.
Pro
I definitely understand this perspective. I think being in the classroom helps you know if you want to be in the classroom or not.
Some love it and some hate it. All jobs have pros and cons. Pros: no grading, lessons, meetings, parents. Cons: the pay and benefits is usually lacking.
Pro
Yes, though the long-term sub jobs have to be the worst of sub jobs.

I was lucky. I only subbed a semester before I got a job 30 years ago. Many graduating with a teaching degree never have worked in the field of education. That’s how tight it was at that time to get a job. Again, luck was on my side!
Pro
Yes, it's a great experience and will help him prepare for when it is his own classroom.
