I’m at an SI, a smaller one, and have enjoyed the hands on consulting and configuration experience. At my firm I also have lots of opportunities to step up and play more senior roles. The downside is that there is a lack of project pipeline in our firm due to the market conditions. The upside is that I could go work at any SI partner essentially since I have the consulting experience.
Consulting offers a few things:
typically, an increase in pay
new learning opportunities
vast array of industry/cloud experiences
but it can also get you stuck in things like
staff aug roles
being on the bench during economic downturns (now)
layoffs (depending on what firm)
being on roles you have 0 experience in
Overall Id say its worth getting into if you can find a good firm with a solid SFDC practice and competent leadership
It depends. If you are more technical, and you can afford the risk of the ups and downs of consulting, then absolutely. If not, it will depend on your situation.
