I have an offer from Capco, it was much lower then I expected for the SC level EA at £80k. I'm at a stable role at a bank with a great WLB. My wife is a front line work. So I can take care of the baby, with the next coming soon. My dilemma is, become a consultant or stay where I am at. Consulting looks attractive as I would be speed up my career progression. Though the travel costs and child care does not warrant the base salary Capco Should I take the hit and join capco?

I followed the advice and simply asked for 300k as the base salary with a total comp between 390-400k.
Went well as that’s where they expected me to be.
Was surprised at how easy the conversation went. Coming from 160k base, it was quite a bold ask. I listed the value add and obviously why i am the best person for the position, then dropped the number.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get…
Not an answer but a few references: I recently joined another large US bank as a Director and when I asked for 390 total comp they did not bat an eye. Previously I was told by recruiters at JPM and C1 that that number was way above their range for the D positions for which I was recruiting, and their max was around 320 for JPM and under 300 for C1.
Makes sense. Right now the market is quite hot, so i will simply ask for a number and take it from there. I am talking directly with the MD hiring, so no middle(wo)man.
