Honestly when we make efforts like this, we want to hear the truth. And yes, constructive tone, ideas to improve etc. So much filtering and self-editing goes on, it’s great when reality cuts through
100% agreed with Partner 1
I like when people identify problems and possible solutions to them. Anyone can complain but people who care suggest solutions.
Maybe talk about scheduling a call at 5 AM EST on 4/16
Yes
As long as it's constructive comments (ie also includes ideas and solutions for fixing some of the issues raised), then definitely need honesty, otherwise how will they know how to fix things and improve?
Bring out the truth in a constructive way.
Second: spill the beans of what truth you have, don't be a tease.
Speak the truth. If you sugarcoat or leave things out, nothing can happen to fix the actual issue.
Pro
Speak the truth, they’re asking. The positive side of the story is that everyone is doing their best to cope with it. Nothing wrong with saying morale is down, people are burnt out from too many internal meetings and not being able to get work done during the day running from call to call. Then mention any positive moves they’ve made already.
Anything you say, bring out some solutions. Not only does it make sure you don’t seem like a complainer, you can use it as an opportunity to show the MD your critical thinking skills/resourcefulness/creativity. I’ve found that giving 2-3 solutions (one that’s an easy fix, one that is my ideal, and one that is wild and out there) tends to get me the easy fix and my ideal.
For example, I told my MD our 45 minute team happy hours were not an effective use of time because everyone was silent and doesnt speak. I suggested: 1) use zoom break out rooms to break the 15 person team into smaller groups of 3-4 to make conversations easier 2) use a platform to play a game... I came prepared with a platform to use 3) cancel the event entirely. The breakout rooms was my easy, the platform was my ideal (Bc it had team bonding purposes and allowed me to network with other partners) and cancelling the event was the thing I knew he wouldn’t do
I’d err on just being honest. If you don’t have solutions so be it but I wouldn’t sugar coat things.
