Psychologically speaking, as long as you are genuine and the praise is coming from your honest observations, you can never praise enough. Whatever behavior and thinking you want repeated, make sure you praise it and it will reoccur. Generally speaking it takes 7 praises to counter act a demeaning comment. So my advice from my decades as a non-profit leader, there can never be too much praise as long as it is genuine and meaningful.
It entirely depends on the employee. Some don't like a lot of verbal praise, so your efforts may feel over-the-top. Some may need more approval and feedback, so they want to hear from you as often as possible.
If the feedback you're sharing is honest, relevant, and specific, (not just "good job today!") it's probably fine, unless you can tell the employee doesn't appreciate it. If you're not sure, you can always ask them how they like to be recognized and if they have any feedback for you regarding how you're doing it.
