If you don’t like Chanel then I wouldn’t want to buy it for the sake of an investment. You buy bags to use, not to sell. There are far higher investment options on ROI than handbags... plus if you decide to sell them even with the price increase be prepared to take a cut for resellers or spend hours and hours finding the right buyer
From investment perspective I’d opt for the classic flaps, $300 isn’t that much in saving compared to what you can get from VAT refunds
VAT refunds are only available to non-local citizens which you claim at the airport. If your Uncle is Russian then he won’t be eligible for a VAT refund. You need a foreign passport to claim a VAT refund.
Only saving $300? Aren’t the import taxes/duties more than that?
Also, getting to know him I wouldn’t be surprised if he mentioned 3 luxury bags in his declaration when he was leaving US just in case.
