I have an upcoming modeling test for an interview. Problem is, I have a Mac. Do people here suggest I use my Mac? I don’t feel like spending money on a pc

Would suggest to switch for PC ; shortcuts are not the same and more efficient on PC - if the test is on PC ofc

Is the test going to be on a mac? There’s your answer... borrow a friend/sibling/cousin’s?

If you aren't looking to drop money on a pc, consider parallels or some other VM software. Modeling on Mac isn't impossible, but it might as well be when compared to a pc.

I can tell you from experience, attempting to model on a Mac sucks. I definitely didn’t do as well because I was on a Mac, I should have run Windows on Mac and it woulda made a world of difference.

If you’re doing the modeling test remotely from your computer, you’re fine. If it’s at their office, they will give you a computer that will 100% be a PC (unless this is an interview with Apple), and you’ll be extremely disrupted by the deviations.

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. How can I politely ask about work/life balance in an interview? I’m interviewing for a lateral move tomorrow for a job that I’m beyond qualified for (the internal recruiter is concerned that they won’t be able to afford me). The reason I am considering a lateral move is because I desperately need balance back especially during the pandemic. How can I phrase a question when interviewing that will give me an honest answer?

Applied for a salaried role, passed all interviews and now recruiter is asking me if I’m open to that role as a contractor instead of the original salaried. I think the problem with consultants is you are overpaid from the very start because you generate revenue, even with zero skills and are willing to travel. Over time that evolves to arrogance because you think you know more than your clients when the reality is your sample set is quite small. I have spent equal time on both sides and would counsel you to be careful in a remote post COVID world because we are all realizing we have more employee capacity than we thought.

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?

Thinking of going to Alaska in July for a week. 1. Is it worth going if on a tight budget? It seems that many of the excursions there are $500+. I'm definitely not looking to spend that much, more in the $50-75 range for an excursion. 2. My wife will be 6 months pregnant. Is there a lot to do considering that (obviously we won't be able to do long hikes etc).

Thoughts on "unlimited PTO"? I'm interviewing at a place that keeps bringing it up as a benefit. They say that corporate supports people taking a week to two weeks off. Maybe I'm cynical, but I've heard that at companies that offer this this, people rarely use the PTO or the PTO is rarely approved. What have your experiences been with this?
