I have been a commercial litigator for three years. I am about to start a new role as a cyber/data privacy litigator defending class actions at a boutique firm. I enjoy litigation, but could see myself wanting to work on advisory/compliance privacy work one day. For people experienced in this area, will I likely be siloed in privacy litigation, or is it common to lateral to other privacy-related practices (advisory, compliance, etc.)?

How does one most effectively make the transition into management from an Individual Contributor?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

Tech question - for those that do document prep - what monitor size do you prefer?
I’m updating from twin 23” in portrait and considering twin 32 or one ultra wide 38”.

I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

I'm moving my firm to a non hourly model. I want to encourage efficiency and discourage the work your life away model.

For litgation we're thinking past pleadings and MTDS then X, Discovery than Y, SMJ motions then Z trial then Q.

What are your thoughts on this ? What are my issues here. I think the hardest one is to predict discovery. But I also think we can outsource some of this to cheeper labor and lean on our tech to not actually have to review everything.

Took a role out of desperation and it was a big mistake. The firm was toxic and crazy revolving door. After only a few months I was fired "for cause" even though no cause was actually given. Is this the end of my career?

Conflicted 2nd Year Associate here. I generally like my firm but obviously hate the practice of law (biglaw). I've been offered a fairly generous comp package to take a non-attorney compliance role with a FAANG company. While there is a modest base pay cut, the total comp (sign on + annual bonus + options) beats where I'm at now and probably will be better than Cravath-scale (including bonus) through at least Year 4. Since I know I'll bail for in-house anyway, should I go now or wait?
