Just stay strong, life is always about ups and downs, you are going through the down right now, but the good news is it will get better. I was also laid off for 9 months during Covid, then took on a job that wasn't a good fit (but it still helped me when I needed it most) then they let me go 1.7 years later—right as a got another offer! I started looking bc I knew my manager didn't like me. And now 1.5 years later I got laid off from a job I actually really loved where I had a great manager and growth opportunity and a great team. Life is life, you have to think and know that good things will come again, bc they will. It's all balanced, so like I said for every up there is a down and for every down there is an up! STAY STRONG KEEP GOING
It's just so hard. I've had for example ...
- Resume rejected a couple of hours of submitting
- "Desired" skills that become mandatory
- Remote roles changed at the last minute to OnSite
- Not working during Covid and not working now held against you
- Do a couple of interviews and not hear back, but see the job reposted
I dread checking email and seeing the rejections. What's worse is when they call you to tell you that you didn't get the job. You recognize the number and wonder if it's the next step and nope.
I just keep hoping.
A profesional colleague of mine in consulting, age 54 with a senior level job was laid off and out of a job for 4 years. His wife was stay at home so they had to sell the house and move into a tiny house village. He finally landed a job equal to what he had before due to knocking on the right door at the right time. Never give up.
That's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to lose my home.
Sorry you are going through this. The market is unfortunately terrible right now. I have applied to several jobs too but don’t hear back from most of them. 1 thing I suggest is to look for some target companies, find employees working there, better if they are your connections and request a referral for those openings. The chances of hearing back for at least an interview go up then. Use resume format that doesn’t get auto rejected by ATS, keywords from job description in your resume. Create a custom cover letter and resume for each opening. Chatgpt really helps with that. Choose a few companies that you want to really work at and prepare accordingly. Good luck!
If you don't mind me asking, what state do you live in and what kind of work are you looking for. Would you consider relocating for a job if asked?
Work multiple tech jobs 30k - 50k+…. It’d add up to your first salary. And then drop all jobs once you find the work you want❤️❤️❤️❤️
I completely understand. I’ve been there before and it’s no fun. Unfortunately, simply applying is more than likely not going to be a fruitful venture. With how this works, you will probably have to tap into your network. Have you gone that route? If not, I would spend all of my time reaching out to your network to see what jobs they can try to help you get into.
That was one of the first things I did. No roles available.
