Why do people bitch about hours here. I'm not in audit I still have worked mo6hing less than 45 QUALITY chargeable hours a week on top of PD work. Only reason we joined big4 was of accelerated growth

^ 🙄. I'm on two jobs simultaneously working till 1am every night. This job blows. Getting the apps ready. Can't wait another 2 yrs of this garbage for a manager position. Everyone has a diff experience in PA - you may get established clients, or like me, get stuck on all messy EGCs / startups.

like

People like OP are the reason budgets are totally blown and people think this job is miserable. I won't make any of my staff stay later than 8 unless it's absolutely necessary. Happy staff produce quality work. This job doesn't have to take over your life.

Because they said it was busy season. They didn't say it was busy every motherfucking day of the goddamn year

It isn't the hours bro, it is the attitudes

You're right, I made the wrong choice this is not the career for me or any sane person

like

All the whiners make it easier for me to get to manager in 5-6 years and bail for a cushy high paying job. Meanwhile the 1 or 2 busy season whiners/quitters are working 45 hrs a week for less money. The job isn't saving lives. The worst thst can happen is a manager is mad at you, who gives a shit. Have a little self respect and don't get pushed around and public accounting is a lot easier.

like

Total staff 1 quote. Check back in once you're off easy engagements / start to senior.

like

I wasn't even an intern here and knew about expectations. If 9-5 is your thing go to a private corporation and be stuck at AVP level for 10 years.

like

I worked at a f100 in a non accounting field and that was much more difficult management wise (i led a team) than PA is. The only potential difficult thing about PA is hours and even that is more a big4 issue. PA budgeting, project management, babysitting 23 year olds... not hard. People like Deloitte senior above have their arrogant heads up their ass.

like

I know man. We get snotty people. Number if times I saw myself just breaking someone's jaw will be in millions.
But I see people complaining in hours, high expectations, stuff, which is what we all signed up for!

like

Then leave big 4. People warned you what big 4 entails for certain industries. You didn't listen. A lot of mid tiers and even some big 4 groups are 55-60 hours busy season and 40 rest of year. Don't blame the career doe your own choices.

like

Public is a career accelerant. Yeah you work more hours but you advance much faster than in industry.

Completely agree with OP. Experienced manager here.

@deloitte 1 Uh public advances your career quicker than private. And I already am an in charge there mr.deloitte. In-charging is only difficult if you lack any form of management ability.

Nothing less*

^exactly. It really depends on your client base. Depending on the office/location, maybe see if it's possible to switch clients to avoid the year-round busy season

What comp can we expect to target after 2 YOE? I’m not miserable in consulting but don’t think I get paid enough. With my promotion in a month, I’ll be hitting 100k and I want to only leave if I can get 110k or more (going for strategy, PM, and a few startup roles). Is that realistic? whens the best time to leave for max comp in the long term?

Attended a top 5 UG and have 1 YOE. Doing mostly public sector work right now. Hours are fine, but pay is not at all competitive and the work is slow and not interesting. WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?

For example would someone with 4.0/780 (not me) be pretty much assured at least 1 M7? Or is there a reasonable chance that all M7s will reject them? Or is their floor just lower (T15 for example)?
