I have officially been laid off for almost 3 months & it has been 1 of the most draining things I have had to deal with in awhile. I havent been sleeping well at all. Some days are harder than others. Even just a little bit of hope that I could be offered a position gives me some hope. My daily life now consists of logging on to Linkedin, Indeed, Glassdoor, & looking for jobs that were posted within 24 hours to apply to. After I apply to the job, I go on the job's company page on Linkedin (CONTD)

I was unemployed for 6 months. I was contacted by a recruiter who found me on LinkedIn and I was lucky to receive an offer.

What worked for me was taking it one day at a time. I kept a routine and went to the gym, library to check out books, long walks and made sure not to make my whole day about job searching. I tried to prepare myself mentally that it could take 6 months to a year to land a job.

Take it easy on yourself and know this is not a reflection of your worth. So many people are in the same boat. If finances are an issue there is no shame in taking a temporary job outside your field. Coffee shop, cashier or whatever.

Best of luck. You got this.

(CONTD) i go on the job's company page on Linkedin & search for someone who works in HR or is a Vice President for the company, & send the person a personalized invitation with the connection request I send that says I applied for a certain job and that I would love to connect with them for a 15-20 min phone call. Lately, I've been noticing I haven't been receiving responses from people whom I have been reaching out to.

In addition, I call, leave voicemails, and emails for Recruiters and get NO RESPONSE!!! WTF DUDE?!!

The last interview I was scheduled to have was for a well known bank & the idiot Recruiter failed to show up to the interview after I waited 30 MINS fir him to show up!!! Then, he did the SAME THING the 2nd time & never sent me an email to say anything about what happened. A$$hole.

Like I literally am beginning to lose some hope that I will find anything before the year is over. I honestly dont know wth the purpose of Linkedin is besides people showing off the fact that they just accepted a new job and not helping anyone else find one!!!

I also tailor my resume to every job I apply to which is beyond draining. I just recently started using a functional resume. I'm not looking forward to the holidays nor am I in the mood for them either. At this point, I am STRONGLY considering relocation because I live in an extremely overly saturated area where there are over 200,000 federal govt. employees working there. As a result of this being the case, there are too many ppl who are unemployed & there are not enough jobs for everyone.

In addition, I am required by the Unemployment office to complete 3 or more workshops which can be super time consuming.

I have no idea how the job market is in other Southern states; however, I am willing to try it because where I am currently living is OUT-FREAKING-RAGEOUS!!!!

Does anyone have any helpful tips to share with who found a new job?
-How long were you unemployed before you finally landed a job?
-Do you have any referrals to provide? Thank you.

Oh my gosh! You are having a hard time. I’ve been applying to jobs nonstop as well, but I haven’t bothered to go into LinkedIn and try to connect with somebody. If nothing else it shows your dedication.

Maybe don’t push yourself so hard except for those dream jobs you really would love. It’s draining, like you say. Also be careful because some job listings specifically ask you not to reach out to them.

I have settled with creating a few different versions of my resume targeting different types of roles and that has been working for me, at least to generate some interest and interviews. Same with cover letters. I have a few different sets of bones I can use where I can then customize them by highlighting the company and our fit.

I honestly don’t even really know how to reach out to recruiters and only work with them when they reach out to me or I’ve applied.

I’m at 6 months, and you sound a bit like how I feel. I am unquestionably severely depressed (but I don’t mean to say that you necessarily are). I’ve recently been crying every day, spent the majority of this 6 months bed rotting and barely leaving the house, let alone showering or getting dressed. My partner made me reach out to a friend the other day to spend time together, and while it was hard to get out, it was nice to chill. I don’t have many friends or any kind of social life anyway, but now I don’t even go to the grocery store.

During this time, I’ve also been applying to jobs like crazy. It’s a lot.

What kind of system do you use?

I'm developing this PC position at work (they've never had one) and I am forced to use the current ticketing system in place. The plan is to create tickets specific to tasks. I want to use a numbering system for cross referencing and basically visual organization. My Ops mgr isn't entirely on board and wants to know why we have to use a setup that works for me while those parts aren't necessarily for everyone.

Not sure how else to build something from scratch.

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid

Interviewing with a small (50 people) boutique firm in a management position. They are in an industry I have 10 years of experience plus I have 5 years management consulting experience in B4 firm. Assuming the pay and potential bonus are reasonable what kind of challenges would I be in for? I already understand this would be a risk to join and help them grow but if I were successful I think it could be very rewarding.
