I’m so sorry you had to go through that—it’s incredibly painful when the place you work, especially for years, becomes toxic. It’s even worse when HR doesn’t act. It’s frustrating when companies lose sight of respect and inclusivity, and it sounds like you deserve way better. If you haven’t already, consider documenting everything and seeking advice on next steps. You shouldn’t have to endure that kind of behavior.
This is probably more common than we realize. Managers tend to have a problem with entitlement, especially when they are good buddies with someone in HR. Things that would normally cause a lawsuit end up getting swept under the rug. I would get out of there.
I’m so sorry this has happened to you OP.
You work for a Christian based company, correct? Did you not think there would be people not very open to your life style choices? I'm sorry you had to go though that and it's aweful you had to feel that way.
HR is a scam they are only there to protect the facility not employees never just HR
It's sad to say I've seen it happen with a former company where a manager admitted in front of HR to talking about and employee with another employee. He basically said it was NO big deal and how it wasn't meant to be malicious and HR repeatedly did nothing even when that said manager was reported more than once on separate occasions. He even went as far as to telling said employee that he would be letting the other employee go and it filtered through to the employee spoken of.
In my opinion, and depending on your tolerance level and sense of self, there's a couple of possibilities. You could stay and just accept that things have changed. You'd have to lower your expectations and cope the best way you can.
Another possibility is that you could stay and try to ignore it as it gets worse. I've tried both in separate, but intense situations. They both led to burnout and disappointment.
It is really hard to leave when you have so many years of service. I wish you well.
A TRUE PROFESSIONAL would focus on patient care. The workplace is not a place for personal prejudice. I too am gay and unfortunately must submit myself to IDIOTS.
