I'm coasting as a manager in GPS, doing a good job and am a high performer, but have no interest in moving up. I'll switch to specialist track at some point.
I got E/E/E this past year. As long as you help with some proposals and have a good relationship with your clients, you don't have to be actively selling work as an M.
How does that change when you move to SM? I am assuming at that point you’re taking ownership of the whole proposal rather than contributing to a specific section?

Yes 😆 got down leveled when I joined D.
You can coast for 3-4 years at M, sure. If you want to go longer, switch to the Specialist track, the M equivalent is Specialist Master— you could stay that level for ever.

It's a tricky question. You may want to compare averages in that big spreadsheet that gets created on fishbowl each year with everyone's salary information.
At the time of switching, nothing happens to your salary. Traditional track people almost uniformly claim that they get paid more than specialists, whereas specialists often say that they get paid less. So the impact will be on the forward trajectory, not the base level, and perhaps wouldn't be impacted all, depending on who you believe.
Of course, by not becoming an SM you miss out on the real increases to salary.
