That sucks, but it’s the way a lot of companies have gone since the layoffs last year.
I was an L6 at Amazon and can confirm that 240 is about the middle of the range, but Amazon will try to track you towards the median, so if you start out at bottom of range, you will get pretty good annual increases, but if you start out at top of range, you won’t.
Totally understand if that is the case, which is why I am concerned about the 60k difference. I want to make the move, but I have financial requirements and even at 240k I would be taking a hit on my current TTC. Thank you for the response
Non tech? That’s bottom of band. You must not have experience
Interesting, experience is not an issue, and they made it clear that is the top of the band for this role
You didn’t get any sign-on bonus? How much did you get in RSUs?
Yeah, that's what got me thinking. The first two years are heavy on sign on bonus and low on RSUs. The RSUs are back loaded , with a pretty ridiculous way of valuing them.
Also, they rarely state the value of the RSU and usually only specify the quantity of RSUs granted.
OP, negotiate higher base and go low on the bonus if you have to. Also, please review Amazon RSU valuation closely. They bake in a 15% growth assumption YoY into their RSU value. Pretty ridiculous, but it is what it is. Recruiter will lie if you ask them "what happens if the stock drops". The recruiter will reply "you will be compensated". There's a lot of IFs and BUTs in that statement which the recruiter won't reveal. Don't believe anything that isn't on a offer letter.
L6 what. LC SDE is going to be a very different band than L6 finance or program etc. some jobs $160K is mid to top of the L6 band and others its below band minimum so job family here matters a lot
Job family - IT Services - 140k base 40k RSUs
Curious what you told them when first speaking about comp expectations. If they came in at 60k lower I would laugh in their face for wasting my time.
There are huge variations in the pay based on job family. Also the hiring manager may have put you in at the bottom of the band. You can ask for more salary/ sign on bonus / and/or more stock. That will have to be negotiated with the hiring manager. Also consider that you will not see a pay increase until the April after your first Aniversary, and any pay increase will be affected by the stock value.
