Paypal Hello, I've been offered Data engineer /Software Engineer at PayPal, india.
How's the company doing, is it profitable? Bit skeptical about the recent layoffs at PayPal.
Any data engineers at PayPal around? Whats your thoughts, how's the team doing and how would be the growth?

Thank you all for your kind words. And I'm sorry to see so many of us sharing the same experience. I'm super scared because I'm on a work visa so I only have few months to find a job before I'm expelled. I've been living here for so long and now my whole life is here. My friends. And it might ends up so soon. I honestly have no idea where to work in L.A.
I've been laid off before... After 2 months. It was also sort of a firing as my employees didn't like me and the client we lost wasn't mine. That was maybe 5 years ago in my first management position.
This is normal and happens to so many people (my wife and I were fired in the same month). It also fucking sucks and will be something you think about for a while. You can either treat it like you're insufficient and you're the problem (you're not)... OR you can pick your shit up and move forward.
The biggest key is staying confident in your ability to do great work. Feel bad about yourself until Monday. If you have the money, take a staycation for a week, file for unemployment if you have to (yes, you can appeal it even if you got fired), just focus on getting in a better head space. Immediately after, aggressively look for what's next. Getting fired sucks, but it doesn't define you. You define you.
So sorry. There used to be a rule to not let people go on a Friday. But maybe those were the nicer times. Send us your info and what you would love to work on. Client or topic or area
RPA is LA is looking for ACDs.
I can't freelance unfortunately as I'm an a work visa. I don't have a lot of options
@ACD1 we’re looking for ACDs, and fetishize international talent
As someone else on a work visa, want to gently underscore that OP can't legally have a side hustle and is under the gun to get a new position that will sponsor their work visa within just a few months or he/ she has to pack up their life and leave the country. Added challenge - current government is hostile towards immigration. It's not the same as when a US citizen gets laid off. No unemployment checks, no taking time to process or find your truth etc. best thing anyone can do for OP is to let them know if your company is hiring or pass on any leads you may have. The rest is a luxury people on visas cannot afford.
Really appreciate all what you just said Edelman. Truly. Everything you just said is the hard truth. Being on a work visa and getting let go means you have less than a month to find a new gig or leave all your friends and go back to your home country. I don't have a lot of savings so it's tough. Thanks for the help 🙌
I'm so sorry OP! You'll be able to find something else.
Same here, last week. Hang in there.
That is bad news, my heart goes out to everyone. Hopefully each of you will land at a much better place eventually.
Same here
Been there. The first few months were tough. Stay kind. Power through. Have faith. It gets better.
I got laid off this week too 😔
Op is it cause a lot of agencies in the industry are trying to get rid of the ACD title?
Most of us have been there. I have at least!! It hurts, but if it wasn't a fit it will be better for you in the long run. Take the time to find your truth, refine your path and find a place that rewards you for your talent and makes you a better you. You will get there! Bumps in the road make us all stronger.
It’s tough, but if it’s any consolation I got laid off during the GFC and was pretty young and clueless at the time. Nobody was hiring so my only option was to freelance, something completely new to me. The first couple of months were tough but then I started getting some work. When it came to do my tax the next year I found I’d earned more than if I’d been kept on. So that’s the silver lining. Hustle and while you may not be doing the best work, your bank balance will be a lot healthier, plus you’ll have a lot more time to yourself until that full time gig comes along.
