What’s the water sector? Like cpg bottling water or water utilities?
It includes both. Moreover, it also provides end users (P&G, Coca-Cola, Unilever, Nestle etc.) for their asset mapping or water optimisation projects. Includes strategy projects for mega water technology providers or system integrators like Xylem, Veolia, Suez, DuPont, Danahar, Ecolab, etc., Working with water-related start-ups and PE/VC for the buy and sell side. Helping big tech companies' data centres like Amazon, Microsoft, Google etc. So, wherever you see an overlap of water uses, it would be included under the umbrella term "water sector". I hope this will help you in providing some suggestions. Thank you.

I’m neither elite nor strategic but if I were about to build a career around water the first thing I would do is read every piece of water policy I could get my hands on and the second thing I’d do is get smart on PFASs. And that would be on top of whatever businessy business your firm is having you do.

The strategy piece is mostly brainstorming bs on slides. No one knows what they’re doing🤣
I’d look up RWE, American States Water, and Aqua America. Look at their trends and strategies on their public statements. Learn what a rate case is and the difference between states such as PA where rate cases are state wide versus NC where they go by subdivision. Understand why some municipalities require grinder pumps, smart meters, or other technologies. Learn what pipe in the ground means and how that is tracked, maintained, and related to rate cases. At a macro level look at water policies and shortages from climate events. That’s my short list from my brief projects in water.
Thank you, EY1, for your wonderful insight.
Can you also suggest a few steps like how to build a "strategy", which framework to look at (Porter 5, SWOT etc.), and where to start at the project ( apart from recent news, annual report, etc.). Thank you.
