Preparation and confidence!
Err that is not true. First it depends on which area of banking you are targeting. Most of the banking skills can be taught and interviewers are aware of it. In fact some investment banking roles have contracted trainings with external orgs. That being said it depends on what level you are targeting as well. It’s hard to just switch into a new role at a more senior level. Eg do not expect to go from accounting into risk at vp level. What you need to do is highlight the skills that you think are applicable to the role you are interviewing for. You do not need to talk about every achievement you’ve made or every single detail you’ve worked on. Just the most applicable parts even if you’ve just worked a day on it. It’s also imp to realize where your work fits in from the big picture point of you so you can connect the dots for the interviewer. And show how their work and yours link into the same goal. So basically you need a fairly good understanding of what the role you are applying for is. That makes it sound like you know about it and you really want to do it.
sounds like tone policing to me. pure and simple. knowledge + charisma may get you hired, sure, but in my opinion only one can survive alone in the workplace and it's not charisma. on the other side, passion + knowledge can translate into charisma or "sounding like you know everything" if you're talking about the thing you're passionate about.
What does "sound like a banker" even mean? To me it has a hint of racial inclination to it...
