You didn’t notice, you have no idea. Shut up.

It is, quite often.
If they notice, and they contact you, and you agree with their rationale, then pay them back.
Being oblivious is fine here, “Sorry, I have everything set up as auto-pay / auto-shift; I didn’t review the deposit amount”

Are you sure you calculated your PTO correctly?
Is it possible there is something you missed?
Was there some portion of a bonus or tax withholding or 401 k contribution or health insurance that was paid back?
It’s not typical for a company to make a miscalculation like this on their end.
Just checked on my 401k and it is in a “blackout” while they move holders (from transamerica to empower). Can’t check my balance until Monday but there is a couple thousand $ difference between what my 401k was and what was paid to me
What company? Will get this corrected for you.

A few things could be happening (besides a mistake):
-HR has no record of the vacation days you took - unless the PTO days were put in a system (either as you requested them or by your manager when they formally managed your resignation), HR would have had no idea that you took the PTO and therefore wouldn’t decrement it
-Your PTO balance recently reset - at some companies your PTO balance may reset on the anniversary of your join date instead of at the beginning of the calendar year
If it’s either of those two, I wouldn’t worry about it. No one will come after you if someone’s forgotten to put the taken PTO into the system, and if the PTO balance has been reset then those weeks are yours.
Not #1 because every PTO day is carefully logged. Maybe #2 but I started in January so not likely. Thanks!
Probably a mistake but one that you likely won't be chased for if you've already left.
If it is a genuine mistake and they realize it, they can pull the money back out of your bank account like magic. I wish I was joking but my old employer accidentally paid me a paycheck after I left and it vanished from my bank account. I looked into it and it is perfectly legal as long as done within X amount of days.
