I just remembered that in the early days of the pandemic, our salaries were cut 10% for like six months to avoid layoffs. Now in such a hot job market, that sounds insane. The crap these companies got away with when anxiety was so high…

I don’t think any of them really got away with it. They took advantage of the uncertainty, for sure, and exploited those of us who weren’t furloughed or had hours severely cut.

But the comeuppance is now as turnover is happening everywhere, and salaries are more competitive. Agencies have to hire fast and aggressively. Only problem is that those of us who haven’t moved are left to shoulder unruly workloads between constant onboardings and clients whose goals rely on post-pandemic “reopening.”

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Not sure whether to be honest or not in this situation. I have decided that I want to leave my job and do a masters degree. I’m planning to leave my job at the end of June, should I warn my boss now so she can start hiring? I don’t want her to be blindsided by my decision and hiring is very slow at the moment. Plus if they hire someone I can train the transition will be easier? But I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if they were thinking or giving me a pay rise or promoting me?
