As someone who is entering their second year working in IT risk assurance, I can tell you I’m worried about exiting into something that isn’t compliance related. I would not recommend coming here, unless compliance is your cup of tea
Everyone I’ve seen exit from IT risk assurance has worked gone in to work in compliance or internal audit somewhere else. This is not something I’m interested in doing, so I’m worried that the skill set I’m developing here will make it much more difficult to exit into anything other than compliance/IA
You don’t really get into risk for the exit ops. It’s definitely possible to make a career out of risk but to get out requires broadening your skill set outside of work.

I broooooadly agree with E1 but wouldn’t say you necessarily need to develop outside of your job to get exit opps - my career path has been IT risk —> Business processes and accounting risk —> Finance team in industry; it requires a bit of luck and the right willingness to understand the bigger picture but it is possible
Why does it get a bad rep?

Wouldn’t say pay is too bad, and with an IT risk background you can go into a CISO sort of role; then again if IT risk and compliance is not your thing that is a negative and not a positive 🤷🏻♂️
