I did... I figured I could probably recoup at least the 5K in a signing bonus if I left... is this stupid?
Nope
Depends on when you plan on leaving.
Guess it depends on if you plan on staying for 3 years.
One way I looked at it is that no matter what happens I have my promo bonus. I don't know for certain what the future will hold, so deferring creates a situation of uncertainty with my money. Mainly because I felt that it was most likely that I would leave EY before the 3 year mark.
I also thought that deferring could put me in a mindset of staying at EY even if something real cool came up.
So far I haven't felt bad about that decision. I wonder if anyone else is having second thoughts about their decision.
Nope. Leaving
I wish I had been given the option, I would have banked it. You’re only giving up 5k - at the time my financial situation wasn’t critical to where I’d have needed it. I’m only 8 months away from manager and that would be a pretty exciting light at the end of the tunnel, accompanied with the knowledge that managers typically have better exit opps with higher comp so staying that extra time doesn’t harm me. I’ve thought about quitting every year without bank your bonus and have decided to stay. Never been a EY coolaid drinker
No and I’m so happy I didn’t
