Take the time you need, protect every other facet of your life. Burnout gets harder to recover from overtime.
Invest in yourself or the rest won’t matter much anyway.
Hang in there x
With complete sympathy and respect: try therapy. Sounds like you were probably unhappy which led you to change, and now you’re unhappy again. Maybe there’s something bigger going on that work changes aren’t going to solve.
Therapy, as suggested, will make a world of difference. Prioritize it, and also explore a leave of absence via FMLA. You may be able to take up to three months off (with job security) to focus on recovering from your burnout. I’ve been in your shoes. Best of luck.
People often think that working on the client side is better, and the agency side is worse, but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
In this economy, taking a sabbatical will likely burn through all your savings. My advice: put on your big boy pants and make the best of the situation.
If you don’t mind me asking, how come client side isn’t for you?
You know, I find that even on the agency side you have to deal with all those things from the clients, they are just abstracted from you. That's where whatever campaign is approved, or whatever review comes from. Once you figure out how to navigate the internal politics, you could find more power to influence and make decisions than the agency side ever does. It takes time though.
Just stop giving 110% for a while. Slack off. Who cares? Worst that can happen is they’ll fire you but I doubt they will.
