I previously made $92k, job eliminated. I'm up for a position that pays $70-80k and they already made it clear they don't have to budget to meet my previous pay. Any idea how careful I should be negotiating for $80k or if I should ask for sign on bonus?
This is my only op right now and my severance is about to runout.
It is still a good op, good company and people, just the pay kinda stinks and I don't feel like there's wiggle room.

If you need a job, this isn't the market to be pushing your luck. I would try for the 80 but I wouldn't be asking them to make up for it with other benefits. Start collecting a paycheck again and keep applying for better paying jobs.

Agree with this!!

Get paid. After taxes, it’s not a huge diff

True, perhaps you could do a side gig once in a while like ride-share or delivery apps to help bridge the gap. At least it’s a small gap to bridge per month.

I was going to say the same thing as partner 1. You may not notice a big difference after taxes if you can get them to pay you 80k. And I don't think it hurts to ask for the max and see what they say.

You have no other ops. What leverage do you have?

It's either $80K, or $0. Once you're in, you can prove your worth, or continue looking for something else, only with a regular income now. Or you can keep going, doing what you're doing, and live off your severance earning $0 extra

agreed, $92k to $80k is not a huge step down. i went from $102k to $80k and stayed at $80k for 3 years when i got laid off over a decade ago. a job is always better than no job.

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

Current situation: company A- was hired as a specialist and proved my worth to become a category manager but ended up on the low end of the salary range because of my lack of experience. Have voice my concern about my pay several times to my director, with no action in return.
Company B - Recruiter on LinkedIn approached me regarding a position open at an out of state healthcare facility for the same thing I do now, I would be working remotely where I currently am today. Cont in comments..

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
