If you need a job, this isn't the market to be pushing your luck. I would try for the 80 but I wouldn't be asking them to make up for it with other benefits. Start collecting a paycheck again and keep applying for better paying jobs.

True, perhaps you could do a side gig once in a while like ride-share or delivery apps to help bridge the gap. At least it’s a small gap to bridge per month.
I was going to say the same thing as partner 1. You may not notice a big difference after taxes if you can get them to pay you 80k. And I don't think it hurts to ask for the max and see what they say.
You have no other ops. What leverage do you have?
It's either $80K, or $0. Once you're in, you can prove your worth, or continue looking for something else, only with a regular income now. Or you can keep going, doing what you're doing, and live off your severance earning $0 extra
agreed, $92k to $80k is not a huge step down. i went from $102k to $80k and stayed at $80k for 3 years when i got laid off over a decade ago. a job is always better than no job.
