I quit my job three months ago without anything lined up because I was genuinely concerned I was going to have a breakdown. Now that I’m refreshed and starting to interview again, I can feel the recruiters getting weird about the gap on my resume. I usually just say I was pursuing personal projects, but I feel like they can smell the burnout on me. How do you explain a mid-career break to hiring managers without sounding like you’re a flight risk who will quit when things get tough?

I list international travel and also show it as a travel break or sabbatical for longer breaks on my Linkedin profile. In the current market a 3 month break should not cause too much concern for HR staff.
