Maybe setup some events towards the end of the month focused on Black women and segue into women's history month with those. That way it shows allyship, engagement, and presents a logical progression to announce upcoming events next month.
The fact that we only talk about women and members of the black community when it’s International Women’s Day or Black History Month is the REAL problem.
Disenfranchised groups will never receive recognition if the primary concern is the attention others get.
What do you mean? What comms do you send out in February for March? Other than event announcements, which you need to get on people’s calendars, but not sure where the conflict would be.
Then give it credence. You don't have to just pick one.
Not 100% sure what you mean. Simply acknowledging both exist is a fact that I don't think would upset most people — if you're just mentioning the months themselves in regular communications (e.g., reminder that it's Black History Month!).
But if you're doing some kind of bigger overall celebration/acknowledgement, I like the idea of wrapping it into Black History Month, not necessarily every year, but at least one year.
Maybe instead of doing a single-month acknowledgment for each, make it a two-month event celebrating women with a focus on underrepresented groups and untold stories (which would give you license to work in some men as needed).
Guess it kind of depends on how far you're going with it, but I don't think you have to choose just one.
Programming can build off other programming. Events or comms at the end of February can help promote events in early March. Find ways to make the 2 part of 1 full conversation around equity rather than fully independent, or include intersectional comms/programs.
So just wait until March 1 to send an email out and engage in programming.
