Hi Fishes, Y.O.E 7.5+ years. Tata Consultancy TCS is offering 25LPA including variable pay and everything. So just 15% increment on my current salary since they mentioned I am leaving my current organization within 1 year.
They mentioned 8-12% is VP plus 80k from that salary is paid at the end of each year. Is it a good enough salary for 7.5+ yoe candidate. Also any heads up for the things I should look out for will be really helpful.
Do optum hold last month salary on resignation.

Companies are a lot less likely to negotiate for reasons well explained by Amazon 1. That being said, you should still try to negotiate. Sounds like you did everything right. It wasn’t a random ask, and you laid out your reasons. Astonishes me how companies forget this used to be an integral part of the process.
I’ve seen this happen several times. It’s more common in today’s market where there is a flood of talent looking for roles due to layoffs. A few main factors:
1/ You’re expressing that you feel you are worth more than you’re being paid which makes you (in the employer’s eyes) a flight risk. Companies don’t want someone having a bad attitude about their comp and then leaving in a year for more money.
2/ in today’s market, more than ever, it’s likely there were several other good candidates just as good as you that were up for the role. The company wants someone who reacts with “OKG thank you I accept” and try to avoid the situation in point 1 above.
I’m not excusing it, I’ve negotiated for every role I’ve ever gotten and walked away from several offers when the comp wasn’t good enough. But in today’s market, which is incredibly biased towards the company, this is getting more common unfortunately. Companies just having a take it or leave it philosophy.
You dodged a bullet
I haven’t been in this situation but recall someone telling
me similar story around 2 years back. When companies
(or the gatekeepers) know the job market is in their favor,
they act in immediate short term view mode & move on
to next best/fall back candidate..but, regardless, you are
better off (than being onboarded & let go on flimsiest of
the reasons within the first few months)…
