Just be honest with your new manager. Take the new offer. You’re not the first and won’t be the last person for this to happen to. Outside of your manager and a few people, nobody will even remember or care in a year
I can appreciate that. It could come back to bite you, but also probably won’t. All I know is that Working for less money, on something you’re less passionate about, will probably not be optimal. Especially if the opportunity was right there but you didn’t take it out of fear of potential repercussions. Sorry if that sounds harsh, not intended to be.
Getting to Dir is hard these days, who knows when your current place would consider you for a promotion.
Mentor
Take it. Could be years until you’re able to get a promotion.
Same thing happened to me and I didn't burn bridges when I left after 2 weeks. Everyone wanted to keep in touch hoping I could maybe help their careers one day at the new company :)
it's always good to recall that to get on a different bus you must first get off of The bus you're currently on right now. also in life there are different circles of trust and honesty must be observed in those different circles accordingly because only tangible things come from honesty nothing comes from lies. Even if the truth doesn't get You what you think you want. it's only because there's something better right around the corner. only desperate people and opportunists jump on the first deal. A seasoned person would know the options are the best and would explore all their options line them all up to check them all out real quick in a day or two and then go over and weigh all their options and make The best choice for them.. now you if you were an employer what patterns would guide you to the person you want to hire.
I’d leave sanofi for a janitors gig that paid in urinal cakes. A sticky note on your managers monitor should suffice.
Fly little birdie…fly.
In all seriousness, D1 is tough to get to, so if you have that in an offer you’d be wise to take it. You get bonus and options and I’ve literally made millions in a decade after having become a D1.
When looking at European positions, also consider the benefits. My first job out of grad school was for a German consulting firm. The day I walked in the door, I immediately had 6 weeks (30 days) of vacation.
Take the director job and don’t look back. Neither company would be the least bit loyal to you so don’t let them make you feel guilty about looking out for your own best interests.
